MINDFULNESS AND TINNITUS

With tinnitus people hear sounds, without the sound actually being present outside the head.

Normally you hear sounds as follows: in your ear is the hearing organ - it has the shape of a cochlea.
It contains cilia that vibrate with sound. A stimulus goes to your brain and you hear sound.

CAUSE TINNITUS

These cilia can be damaged by noise pollution - for instance headphones or a loud bang, an accident such as a whiplash, inflammation in your ear or old age.
These damaged cilia will now also send stimuli to your brain and will also be “heard” there as a murmur, a drill or whistle, without anything happening outside.

TINNITUS REINFORCED BY TENSE BODY

Your body is under stress. Speed up your heart and breath. Your muscles cramp, especially in your face and shoulders. Your neck and jaw joints are limited.
The noise increases.

TINNITUS REINFORCED BY NEGATIVE EMOTIONS

The noise increases even more due to negative emotions: you become irritable, angry, depressed or anxious.

TINNITUS REINFORCED BY NEGATIVE THOUGHTS AND BEHAVIOR

The noise is further increased by:
Negative thoughts - you have a tendency to catastrophes, to see the future as black.
Negative behavior - you isolate yourself by the noise.

ONLINE MINDFULNESS COURSE

On the online course you learn to reduce your tinnitus step by step - see the heading EXERCISES.
In addition to the exercises that can be listened to, there are two workbooks and various schedules that provide insight and structure on how to get your complaints under control.

In the murmur exercise, attention is focused directly on the murmur.
You observe the sound in a detached and sober way, as if holding it in your hand and examining it calmly.
This way you can learn to deal with it in a different way.

You have learned to relax your body optimally and to make your emotions, thinking and behavior positive.
This way you will be less bothered by the noise and hopefully it will disappear completely.
